Webshepherd girl. Saint Bernadette Soubirous (January 7, 1844 – April 16, 1879) was a shepherd girl from the town of Lourdes in southern France. She was canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church on December 8, 1933. From February to July 1858, Bernadette reported 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary.
