WebJun 4, 2024 · Steering Rack BOOT is basically there to protect the INNER end of the tierod and the SEAL of the Steering Rack itself. See Picture: 1. Disconnect OUTER end of tierod. 2. Clean the entire tierod well from dirt. 3. Small amount of grease on the INNER end of tierod. 4. Slide the new Steering Rack BOOT over and clamp it and that is it. 5. WebJan 19, 2013 · Use a digital caliper to measure the rack. For the e46 rack, the measurement should be 2.0x inches from each side. For my ZHP rack, the measurement was 2.04x. If for some reason the ball joint is dry or filled with dust, then pack it with some thick bearing grease. Otherwise, leave it alone. Also, there is no specific driver/passenger side tierod boot.
