WebIMO, a 100-500 is a good intermediary between a 150-600 and a 600 f/4 if you don't have the big bucks to spend. Aside from the increased focal length and aperture, it provides a similar boost in image quality, IS, focusing over a 150-600. Obviously, I'd love to have both, though.
